Optimization Timeout troubleshooting

Updated over a week ago

This article will help you identify areas of your schedule preferences to consider checking if optimizations are either taking too long or timing out without a result.

Solutions

  • Limit short pieces

    • Add the limit short pieces preference.

  • Limit short pieces exist

    • It’s set to a low piece duration (under 60\75) - raise it to a minimum of 90 (minutes).

  • Verify relief points/timing preference is defined

  • Verify breaks preference is defined

  • Verify split break definition is defined

    • (i.e. exists and not paused) and defined correctly.

  • Multiple preference groups

    • Check they are limited to specific route groups.

    • Verify Route groups (for preference groups) are defined (i.e. exists and not paused) and defined correctly.

  • Verify duty types are defined correctly

    • Common cases:

      • Duty types are defined without any work time or spread time ranges, or have a minimum of 0:00 while the minimum is 5h. The optimization uses Spread and work time as fast rejects in the duty candidate creation process.

  • Public Transportation (Duty Travel)

    • If the schedule uses public transportation then ensure the ‘Maximum transfers’ parameter has been set to 0 (or no more than 1).
