To start configuring preferences for EV fleets, the main consideration is that an electric bus cannot run on a single charge all day. New constraints that are dependent on one another arise when we schedule EV buses.
For example, we need to consider:
battery capacity
charging events
additional layovers at certain stops
For the system to consider the constraints presented above, a new set of Preferences was created in Optibus. This new set of preferences appears in a new sidebar section called Electric Vehicles containing the following (the preference names contain links to their respective articles):
After setting the preferences and optimizing the schedule, the resulting optimized schedule will look like the following:
As usual, you can use the Manual Edit tool to make adjustments, such as adding a recharge event or manually making or modifying the entire schedule. When you add recharge events manually, the battery capacity in percentage is updated automatically per the modified arrangement.
