S-109-V1-EN
The Relief Timing preference replaces both of the following preferences:
Continuous Attendance (in the Vehicles category)
Duty Layover Relief (in the Drivers category)
If you've been using Continuous Attendance or Duty Layover Relief, you'll need to switch over to Relief Timing because the older preferences are being phased out. (If you haven't been using either of the older preferences, there's no need to do anything – but you may want to read about the relief timing preference to see if you'd like to start using it.)
Relief Timing allows you to define when drivers relieve one another while performing a changeover, in relation to the departure time of the current vehicle or arrival time of the next vehicle. It is also more intuitive and easier to use than the preferences it's replacing and can achieve better results.
To learn more about the Relief Timing preference, go to the Relief Timing article. To learn how to switch to Relief Timing from Continuous Attendance or Duty Layover Relief, keep reading below.
How to switch to Relief Timing
Follow the steps below to switch each element of the Continuous Attendance and Duty Layover Relief preferences to Relief Timing. We recommend keeping one tab open for Relief Timing and one tab open for Continuous Attendance and/or Duty Layover Relief so you can make sure the new preference definitions are consistent with the older ones.
Go to Preferences > All Preferences > Relief Timing
Select + Add Relief Timing to begin defining the preference
In the window that opens, fill in the fields based on your current settings in the Continuous Attendance or Duty Layover Relief preferences (more below).
Name: Select a name that describes when this preference applies (for instance, "Relief Timing for 17-23")
Stops: Go to Duty Layover Relief and/or Continuous Attendance. If either of these preferences includes a definition related to stops or stop groups, set the same definition in Relief Timing.
Routes: Go to Duty Layover Relief and/or Continuous Attendance. If either of these preferences includes a definition related to routes or route groups, set the same definition in Relief Timing.
Times applied: Go to Duty Layover Relief and/or Continuous Attendance and select Filter.
Select the Time Intervals tab in Duty Layover Relief and/or Continuous Attendance and make the following selections in the Times Applied menu in Relief Timing:
If there is no time range in the phased-out preference, select All day in Relief Timing
If the time ranges in the phased-out preferences applied to the category Within ranges, select Between in Relief Timing
If the time ranges in the phased-out preferences applied to the category Outside ranges, select Except in Relief Timing
Relief time:
If the Start of layover? parameter in Duty Layover Relief is set to Yes, then select Arrival as the Relief time in the Relief Timing preference.
If the Start of layover? parameter in Duty Layover Relief is set to No, then select Departure as the Relief time in the Relief Timing preference.
Filter button:
a) In Duty Layover Relief and/or Continuous Attendance, select Filter to see if there are rules listed under each section of the Expert tab (Service trips, Depot pulls, Stretches). Use Ctrl+C to copy any rules you find in a given section.
In Relief Timing, select Filter and paste the rules into the same section. Repeat for rules in any other section of the Expert tab.
b) In Duty Layover Relief and/or Continuous Attendance, check the Vehicle Types tab under Filter to see if specific vehicle types are selected.
In Relief Timing, go to Filter>Vehicle Types to select the same vehicle types.
5. Once you've finished moving all the information from the phased-out preferences to Relief Timing:
Save the preferences you've defined in Relief Timing:
To save the preference definitions as a template that you can reuse, select Save As
at the top of the preference window.
To save the preference definitions without saving as a template, select Save
at the bottom of the preference window.
