When it comes to breaks, like meal breaks or vehicle maintenance, different issues can occur, affecting your operation. Below are some common troubleshooting cases related to duty breaks.
These are some of the most common validation errors to occur, and it is essential to address them to ensure compliance with the designated rules.
Breaks do not comply with preference (Continuous Break)
While setting up your duties, you might come across a common break validation error. This happens if you don't follow the rules outlined in the Duty Break or Break Preference guidelines, leading the system to not recognize these breaks as valid. Here are some typical instances where these errors occur.
Setting a minimum break time of 50 minutes, but some breaks are shorter than this duration.
Restricting the break time frame. For instance, if the latest allowed break end time is 19:40, but you have breaks finishing later than that.
Setting a Maximum Time Without Break for drivers, and exceeding that limit. For example, if drivers are only allowed to drive a maximum of 5 hours before the required break.
Verifying that the breaks are taken at valid locations.
Breaks do not comply with preference (Fixed Break)
Ensure that the minimum number of breaks aligns with the defined break preference. For example, if you have set a minimum of two breaks for duties, verify that there are no duties with only one break.
Breaks do not comply with preference (Pattern Break)
Check that your break pattern matches the defined break preference.
Too many breaks in duty
Note: this is relevant for special cases with duties that require many short breaks.
The fixed breaks and continuous breaks rules have parameters called maximum_breaks and minimum_breaks. By default, they are set to 10 (100 for fixed) and 0 (1 for fixed). If these default limits are exceeded, the duty will be considered illegal. For example, if a rule requires 5-minute breaks every 6 hours of work, using the default values would result in too many breaks, making the duty illegal. To address this, you can adjust the maximum_breaks field to a value of 100 in the Breaks Preference.
