The Driver Base preference is a non-templated preference where you define where a driver is allowed to start and/or end their duty and split breaks. In this article you will learn how to set this preference.

  1. Go to the preference tab.

  2. Search for Driver base in the search bar.

  3. Click on the button under the Drivers tab.

  4. Click Add preference at the bottom.

  5. Click on Add type, and a drop down will appear. You can choose your driver base to allow straight duties, split duties, or both.

Straight

By selecting this option we can choose where we want the drivers to start and end their duty. You have the option to add circularity: start duty - end duty.

  • Click on the Start duty-end duty circularity and add these to locations to the Start duty dropdown, to set the duty to start and end at the canteen or at the depot.

  • If you do not need the circularity requirement, you would simply make sure that checkbox is unticked and add where the duty can end in the dropdown.

Split / Straight or split

By selecting this option we can choose where we want the drivers to start and end their duty and start and end their split. You have the option to add circularity: start duty - end duty, start split - end split, start duty - start split and end split - end duty.

Penalty

Use the Penalty if there's a situation that you'd rather avoid, but you don't want to rule it out because there may be situations when there's no better option.

For example, if you'd rather drivers didn't start their duties at Main Street and end at Elm Street, assign a penalty to that situation to let the Optibus platform know that this is a non-ideal situation.

Filter

The Filter allows you to add more specifications to your Driver Base definitions.

  • Time intervals: Select "Add time range" to define what time the definitions you've set should apply. Select whether the definitions should apply within the time range you set or outside the time range.

  • Vehicle types: If you want your Driver Base definitions to apply only to specific vehicle types, select which vehicle types the definitions should apply to.

6. After configuring the preference, press SAVE & CLOSE.

Before we can see what changes this will make to the system, we need to add duty types. Learn more about it in the Duty Types articles.

Note: The order of the driver base type in the preference determines how they are applied across the schedule, with higher-positioned types taking priority over lower ones. To change the order, hover over a type and use the arrows to the right to move it up or down.

Viewing Start point and Endpoint Stats

You can add a stat for Start point and Endpoint which allows you to see the start and end location for duties. To do this:

  1. Click on Stats.

  2. Click on Start Point and End Point

  3. Press APPLY.
