The default order of vehicles and duties in the Gantt view is by their ID. You can sort vehicles, duties, and trips by other criteria, which can be useful for manual editing and schedule overview.
Sorting vehicles and duties
Rows of vehicles and duties can be sorted by ID and any other column added from the Stats menu. To learn more Stats, check this article: Scheduling Stats.
To sort vehicles and duties ID or another stat, click on the corresponding column. Clicking once will sort the rows in the ascending order, clicking twice will create a descending order. For example, below you can see vehicles sorted by descending start time:
Sorting trips
Instead of sorting entire rows of vehicles or duties, you can sort individual trips, which in turn will affect the order of rows.
To do so:
Click on a trip in the Gantt.
Click Sort by. You will see multiple sorting options based on the trip properties. The sorting options are described below.
Route
With this option, the system will sort all the trips for the route that the selected trip follows. The selected trip will serve as the pivot for sorting, and it will move the following trip’s vehicle to the second position.
Route and direction (Route & Dir)
With this option, you are factoring in two parameters and arranging trips with the same route and direction by their start time, using the time of the selected trip as the pivot.
Route, direction, and alternative (Route, Dir & Alt)
Similar to the Route & Dir option, you can sort the trips based on their route, direction, and alternative (pattern).
Origin
This option allows you to sort the trips not by route but by their starting location.
Destination
Similar to the Origin sort, this option allows you to sort that end at the same location.
Origin and destination (Orig & Dest)
If you have a specific start and end stop to replace a trip and want to find other trips with the same start and end stops, you can utilize this option.
You can move trips to the stack and replace them with other trips - this sort lets you do that more easily without having to search for the right row.
Starts at destination (Starts at Dest)
This sorting option can help you find trips that start at the destination of the selected trip
If you want to find a trip that will be ideal to put after the trip you are looking at, this is how you can implement it.
Once you hit Sort you will see that the next suggested trip that is a trip that starts from the selected destination.
Ends at origin (Ends at Orig)
Similar to Starts at destination, the Ends at origin will sort the trips that go well before the trip you have selected to sort. These two sorting options can help you find a good match in the connection of two trips, ideally without deadhead.
Saving or resetting the order
The sorting order you apply is not saved automatically. The Gantt will revert to the default view once you refresh the page. You can prevent this by saving the order. To do so, click the icon highlighted below:
Note: saving a sorting order makes it default. The easiest way to restore the original sorting is to sort by ID and save again.
To go back to the default view, click the blue Reset Order button in the top-left above the Gantt while a sorting order is applied.
