Updated over 2 weeks ago

Scheduling is split into two tabs: Vehicle Schedule and Crew Schedule.

In the Vehicle Schedule tab, trips are assigned to vehicles. In this tab, you will find a Gantt view with your vehicles, a KPI dashboard, a validation panel, and other tools listed in this article.

In the top-right corner, you can see a drop-down with your service IDs. Service IDs are usually named after the days of the week they are active. Click on it to select the service you want to view in the Gantt:

KPI panel

The KPI dashboard at the top of the page sums up the results of your schedule and shows important metrics for you to understand its efficiency. You can learn more about the dashboard in this article.

Vehicle Gantt

In the center of the screen, you can see a Gantt chart. Each row represents a vehicle and what tasks it performs throughout the day, such as trips, deadheads, layovers, and so on.

Note: The vehicle and duty Gantt charts are connected - making changes in one will impact the other.

Click on an event in the Gantt to see its details. Parameters marked with * are only relevant to trips:

  • IDs of the duty and vehicle performing the task

  • Event type (except in trips)

  • Route*

  • Pattern (ALT)*

  • Trip ID*

  • Eligible vehicle types*

  • From and to locations

  • Start time, end time, duration, and distance of the event

Depending on the type of the event, you also edit, move, or delete them while viewing the details.

You can also click the duty ID (the number in the top-left corner of the popup) to view this trip in the crew schedule:

In the vehicle schedule, trips can also be linked, grouped, or ungrouped. Click on the highlighted terms to learn more.

Vehicle schedule events

  • Trip - colored rectangle or rectangular arrow, depending on the direction of the trip or if it’s circular. Outbound trips point right, inbound trips - left. Contains the route number:

  • Deadhead - black rectangle. If the deadhead is automatically generated and is not in the catalog, the rectangle will have an orange dot in the middle:

  • Pull-in or pull-out - grayed-out rectangle. These are deadheads that start or end at a depot. They are usually placed at the beginning and end of the day, or at midday parks. The hue of the rectangle will vary between depots.

  • Sign-on or sign-off, also pre- and post-trip time - T-shaped icon.

    • Pre- or post-trip - time allocated to check the vehicle.

    • Sign-on or -off - time allocated for the driver to report in or out of duty, break, or a work piece.

  • Relief - vertical up and down arrows:

    • The down arrow next to an event indicates a relief where one driver gets relieved on arrival.

    • The up arrow indicates that the next driver onboards the vehicle on departure.

Vehicle ID column

Down the left side of the Gantt is the Vehicle ID column. Click on an ID to view information such as:

  • vehicle type;

  • start and end locations of the vehicle;

  • total time and mileage;

  • warnings and errors.

Like separate events, vehicles can also be moved and edited while viewing the details.

Clicking on the checkboxes next to the IDs will open a toolbar where you can do the following:

  • batch edit vehicles

  • generate vehicle IDs

  • unassign trips from selected vehicles

  • pin vehicles to the top of the list

  • view selected vehicles in the crew schedule

Stats, layers, and filters

Above the Gantt on the left, you can enable various stats, layers, and filters.

  • Stats allow you to add columns to the left of the Gantt, displaying more information about the vehicles, such as vehicle types, start and end times, driving time, and other details.

  • Layers are added over the Gantt itself, letting you view details like duty or trip IDs, as well as relief opportunities and break or layover durations.

    Switching a layer changes what is displayed on the trip blocks on your Gantt. By default, you will see route numbers displayed over the blocks. You can switch those for trip IDs, duty IDs, and other details.

  • Filters can be applied to only view duties that fit certain parameters, such as duration or preference group.

Optimization

If your product package includes it, you will see the Optimize button on the right above the Gantt. Optimization arranges and assigns your duties and/or vehicles in the most efficient way possible, following your preferences.

Other tools

Below the Gantt, at the bottom of the page on the left, you can see how much of your duties and vehicles are successfully assigned:

In the bottom right, there is a validation panel that lets you see the issues present in the current version of your schedule. Click on them to find out more. To learn more about the validation panel, check out this article .
