To save time and effort, you can build a new schedule based on one you have already created. This is done using projection, which allows you to import data from a different schedule.
With projection, the trips, vehicle assignments, and preferences from the original schedule are applied to your new schedule and timeplan.
Importing data from a different schedule
To create a new schedule, open a project in the Scheduling tab. Select the dataset you want to work in, and click New Schedule in the top-right corner.
2. Click on the ellipses
in the top bar. From the dropdown, select Import > Import a different schedule.
3. You can search for a schedule in two ways:
Search for it manually.
Paste the link to the schedule you want to project.
Manually searching for a schedule
Click on the dataset which contains the schedule.
2. Click on the schedule you want to project and then choose the service at the bottom of the screen. You also have a choice of different checkboxes at the bottom that include:
Ignore vehicle types: trips’ mismatching vehicle types will be ignored when we import. For example, a route could have originally had a single-decker bus, but due to the increase in demand for that route it now potentially needs a double-decker bus. When we project, it will still be the same trip and the same route just without the vehicle type.
Vehicles only: Checking this will mean that it will only project the vehicles; it will ignore any duties.
Allow non-matching origin or destination: Some of the trips may have changed their start/end location. If this is the case, we can allow them into this schedule.
Max start time difference: Allow trips that may have had a change in their start time to be projected into the new schedule up to a certain time difference. For example, if a trip started at 0500 and now it starts at 0700, this wouldn't be allowed if the max start time difference was set to 60 minutes, but it would allow the trip to be projected if the start time was now 0530.
Apply to unlocked rows only: This will merge the schedules to unlocked rows only. Preferences will not change.
Retain deleted duties: Retain duties from the source schedule when none of a duty’s trips exist in this schedule.
Include modified trips: Include any custom trips (non-timetable trips) from the previous schedule into this schedule.
3. Once you are ready, click Apply at the bottom right.
You will now see that the vehicles and duties have been imported into the schedule. You can check if there are any unassigned vehicles/duties by clicking on the pencil icon in the top bar.
If you try to import a service day into a different service day, for example, put a Sunday service into a Saturday service, if the trip matches then the assignment will be retained, otherwise they will appear in the stack.
If you click on layers, you will see that there is an additional part at the bottom of the list, which allows you to see the number of trips added, modified, and deleted. The checkbox allows you to see trips that are part of the imported schedule, but not part of this schedule.
All the trips that are not colored are deleted trips. If you compare the trips in the stack to the “ghost” (deleted) trips, you will have an idea of where the trips could go and see what the differences are with those trips.
If you want to only project part of a schedule, for example, if two 2 vehicles are no longer required, you can lock the vehicles you don’t want to include by clicking the checkbox next to the vehicle ID and selecting the lock button.
4. Click the ellipses
in the top bar, then select Import > Import a different schedule.
5. Find the schedule you want to import by clicking on its dataset and clicking on the schedule. Click on Apply to unlocked rows only and press Apply.
Once it’s imported, you will see that the locked rows have remained the same, but the other vehicles have been imported and modified based on the previous schedule.
Pasting a Schedule URL
Copy the URL of the schedule you want to import.
2. Paste this URL into the Import from a different schedule screen of Schedule Demo 2.
When you click on the search icon on the right side of the link, you will see additional information about the schedule you are projecting or importing from. Here you can select which service ID for example you want to import:
3. Hit Apply. The vehicles and duties will be imported into the schedule for the selected service. You can check if there are any unassigned vehicles or duties by clicking on the pencil icon in the top bar.
What happens to the trips?
Added trips
If a trip was added to the new dataset, it will go to the stack. In that case, a manual edit will be required.
Changed trips
If a changed trip can be performed by the same driver and vehicle as in the previous schedule without overlapping with another trip, it will remain in place. A blue sign will appear next to the vehicle and driver IDs to indicate something has changed.
If a changed trip cannot be performed by the same driver and vehicle as in the previous schedule without overlapping with another trip, it will be moved to the stack and manual editing will be required.
Removed trips
If a trip was removed from the new schedule, there will be a blank space. The duty and vehicle will be marked with a blue sign to indicate the change.
