S-117-V1-EN
Deadhead is when a revenue-gaining vehicle operates without carrying or accepting passengers, such as when coming from a depot to begin the first trip of the day. In this case, the vehicle is said to be deadheading.
The deadhead catalog is used to know the travel times between all stops, so during the optimization process, the system will be able to choose the best way to link trips.
Upload a deadhead catalog
1. Open to the Main Menu and select "Deadhead Catalog".
2. Click Import Catalog.
3. Select your deadhead catalog (an Excel file). The Excel file should be in the required deadhead catalog format.
To change the name of the deadhead catalog, go into "Deadhead Catalogs" from the menu. Go to the row of the relevant catalog and click on the pencil icon, rename it and save.
If you want to delete it – click on the trash can and confirm.
Update a deadhead catalog
First, you should know that when you update a deadhead catalog, no records are deleted from it (unless you enter new details for the same trip and then it will be changed).
1. Click on the menu button, and choose "Deadhead Catalogs" (like seen above).
2. Click on the relevant deadhead catalog. You will enter the catalog's properties, there you can download the catalog and update the Excel file in your computer.
3. Enter again to the deadhead catalog's properties, click update on the top right of the screen.
4. Choose the updated file. You will see in green font the updates.
For example, if you’ll update 3 rows and add one row, you will see this screen:
When the catalog was uploaded\updated, you will be able to use it for your schedule.
5. In order to adapt the existing deadheads according to the updated catalog, click "Revise events" under the schedule updates menu:
6. Check the "Deadheads" checkbox and then "Modify Schedule"
Now all deadhead should match the deadhead catalog.
At this link, you will find a guide on how to use the "Revise events" feature.
Replace a deadhead catalog
You can replace the deadhead catalog entirely with a new updated one.
1. Click on the menu button on the top left corner of the screen, and select "deadhead catalogs" (like seen above).
2. Click on the relevant deadhead catalog. You will enter the catalog's properties, there you can click the “Replace” button.
At this link, you will find a guide on how to Define deadhead preferences in the platform.
Save a revised deadhead to the catalog
After editing a deadhead in the schedule, an orange dot will appear, indicating that the deadhead is different from the deadhead in the catalog.
In case you would like to apply the change on the deadhead catalog, instead of importing the catalog, changing it manually and exporting again, you are able to replace the deadhead in the catalog with the revised deadhead from the schedule itself.
Click on the revised deadhead, and choose "Save to catalog" from the trip tooltip.
After clicking "continue" in the prompt message, you will be transferred to the editor window.
In the editor validate that the new deadhead includes the revisions you applied, and save.
Now your new deadhead is saved to the catalog, replacing the existing one.
